Laser Tattoo Removal – Pre & Post Treatment Care
At Seamless Skin Clinic, we prioritize your safety and the effectiveness of your laser tattoo removal treatments. To achieve the best results and ensure a smooth healing process, please follow these pre- and post-treatment guidelines carefully.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
To prepare for your laser tattoo removal session, follow these recommendations:
Sun Protection
-
Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and fake tan on the treatment area for at least four weeks prior to your appointment.
-
Sun exposure increases the risk of hyperpigmentation and blistering.
Skin Preparation
-
Ensure the treatment area is free from cuts, sunburn, rashes, or any active skin conditions. If irritation or infection is present, your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
-
If the tattoo is in a hairy area, shave the skin the night before. Do not wax or pluck.
Medications & Sensitivity Considerations
-
Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and other blood thinners 24-48 hours prior to reduce the risk of bruising. If you are on prescription blood thinners, consult your doctor before treatment.
-
If desired, numbing cream can be applied one hour before the session, covered with plastic wrap.
Hydration & Lifestyle Factors
-
Drink plenty of water and eat a healthy meal before your session.
-
Avoid alcohol and caffeine on the day of treatment, as they may increase skin sensitivity.
Treatment Expectations
-
Tattoo removal is a gradual process. Ink fades over multiple sessions, with healing required between each session.
-
The number of sessions required depends on factors such as ink color, depth, and skin type.
Post-Treatment Care
Proper aftercare is essential for healing and achieving optimal results. Follow these guidelines after each session:
Immediately After Treatment
-
The treated area may appear red, swollen, and feel warm. This is a normal reaction.
-
A whitening/frosting effect may be visible immediately but will subside within minutes to hours.
-
Minor pinpoint bleeding or blistering can occur, especially with dense ink.
First 24-48 Hours
-
Apply a cold compress (wrapped in a cloth) to reduce swelling and discomfort.
-
Keep the area clean and dry. Wash gently with lukewarm water and mild soap.
-
Apply an antiseptic aftercare ointment such as Bepanthen to aid healing.
-
Avoid touching, scratching, or rubbing the treated skin.
Blistering & Scabbing
-
Blisters may form within 24 hours. This is a natural part of the healing process and helps to remove ink.
-
Do not pop or pick at blisters or scabs, as this may increase the risk of scarring or infection.
-
If blisters break, keep the area clean and apply a sterile dressing.
Avoid These for at Least One Week
-
Sun exposure – Once healed, apply SPF 50+ sunscreen to prevent pigmentation changes.
-
Intense exercise & sweating – Avoid heavy workouts, saunas, and excessive heat.
-
Swimming & soaking – No pools, hot tubs, or soaking in water until the skin is fully healed.
-
Tight clothing – Wear loose clothing over the treated area to prevent irritation.
Healing & Ink Fading
-
The tattoo will begin to fade over the next 6-8 weeks.
-
Healing time varies for each individual, but most experience full recovery within 7-10 days.
-
Follow-up sessions are typically scheduled 6-10 weeks apart to allow the body to process and remove the fragmented ink.
